In an art market so dominated by commercial art shows, big names, VIP artists and famous art galleries, is it now possible to have a passionate art collection driven only by the heart ? The answer is yes ! Because the heart is not for sale. This simple but powerful motto has inspired the exhibition entitled precisely «EL CUOR NO SE VENDE» that will take place in Hydra, the beautiful Greek island and art lovers’ destination, at the Historical Archives Museum from July 1st to August 31st, 2016.
The Curator behind this emotional heart beating exhibition is Didier Guillon, President, Owner and Artistic Director of the Valmont Group. Mr Guillon became interested in art at a young age and has collected during all his life modern and contemporary art guided only by passion, talent and inspiration. This art by heart philosophy now becomes a public manifesto and a real exhibition. “EL CUOR NO SE VENDE” is a pure, ethic and aesthetic driven approach to art where art meets beauty and where taste and freedom are the only protagonists.
The tremendous sentence “EL CUOR NO SE VENDE” really exists, sprayed in big bold white letters onto a red banner in the center of Venice, close to the Rialto’s bridge. Mr Guillon saw it during a trip to Venice, floatpassing the Grand Canal aboard a vaporetto and took it as a genuine statement of his art conception. These few powerful Venetian words, against speculation and rampant mercantilism, are now the title of Didier Guillon’s second exhibition at the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra.
The artworks that visitors will admire this summer were not subjected to the selection of this last quarter of the century’s artistic production, a process that has become so usual it is almost mundane. Visitors will not find the usual “big names” whom any contemporary art lover would expect to find in any trend fair. In the emotional setting of the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra, the heart of art will beat and The Valmont Foundation will invite people to discover new interesting talents such as Isao Llorens, Quentin Garel, Lee Jung Woong, Yves Bélorgey and many others.
These artists’ works all conquered the heart of the Curator, as they bear no speculation and seem to all be united by a common thread. A thread made of creative ethics, true conspicuous comeback to craftmanship in the artistic work, and a certain sense of contempt for any need of a creative justification.
The Valmont Foundation
The Valmont Foundation stands as a cultural and philanthropic institution which organizes each year several exhibitions throughout the world. Through the Foundation, Didier Guillon has invited a selection of artists to collaborate on artistic projects. Present at the 2015’s Venice Biennale with “The Dialogue of Fire” and in 2016 on the island of Hydra with “EL CUOR NO SE VENDE”, the Foundation promotes exhibitions in beautiful destinations which stimulate visitors’ imagination.
“EL CUOR NO SE VENDE” will showcase 15 artists on 2 floors. The “Shadow” area of the exhibition on the first floor will showcase Lee Jung Woong, Joan Gardy Artigas, Quentin Garel, Didier Guillon, Isao Llorens Ishikawa, Yves Bélorgey, Nathalie Miquel Aubert, Frederic Amat and Riccardo Cordero . On the second floor, the “Light” part of the exhibition will feature the artworks by Yves Lévêque, Bénédicte Blanc-Fontenille, Jane Le Besque, Baoulé Tribe, Didier Guillon, Tom Powell, Mitsu Haraguchi, Leonardo Cimolin.
The passion for art is like a “fil rouge” in Didier Guillon’s family and he became interested in art at a very young age. Year after year, Mr Guillon has built an accute knowledge and taste for modern and contemporary art, two areas which are very dear to him. An artist himself, he has always considered art as core inspiration and the most exclusive partner for beauty. Staying true to his apasionado reputation, he regularly creates artworks, such as “La cage à allégories” or “Rain Cage” that will be exhibited at “EL CUOR NO SE VENDE”.
The Historical Archives Museum of Hydra
“EL CUOR NO SE VENDE” will be featured at the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra, (H.A.M.H.): an elegant museum established in 1918 that constitutes a lively beehive of continuous cultural activities. The H.A.M.H. is indeed a steady reference point for the promotion of the local culture, playing a key role in the island’s artistic reputation. In this amazing setting, art by heart will inspire visitors in a passionate and emotional journey.
The magic of Hydra
“EL CUOR NO SE VENDE” will take place in the enchanting island of Hydra: an artist’s paradise and exquisite destination. This magical Greek gem is a mix of barefoot luxury and relaxed style, side by side with the wealth of visiting yachts. At a breathing distance from Athens and any European capital, Hydra lives at the pace of the 19th century, free of cars. Culture and art beat on this magical island while its architecture reflects the glory of the Greek past with a great state of preservation of the local patrimony.
